In 2017 I added my female canary had lost all her feathers around her neck. Now she is fine, added the full spectrum light which she loved, she stopped laying eggs and had a full molt which after that her feathers grew back and no other problems since then but it took over a year to get the feathers back. She used to lay eggs constantly but no more, maybe that helped too . Adding mineral grit helped too.100% crushed Oyster shells or ground seashell Calcium added in a separate dish.

Stress/Mites vs. Vitamin deficiency by: Marty
So will it hurt my canary if I treat her for Mites even if it's just a vitamin deficiency from laying a lot of eggs? Or being stressed out - which I don't believe is the issue. I have 2 females in the same cage, but only one is having this problem....

Feather loss around neck by: Savannah
I saw that several people have been asking about baldness at the neck/throat area, and saying that vitamins and mite treatment haven’t helped. In my experience, when they are bald specifically in that throat area, it’s often from a fungal infection. It can be exterior like ringworm, or internal, inside the throat. A vet can help with prescribing an antifungal med, or you can order some online. Just type in "canary antifungal medication" and you should see a lot of results. They can usually even be found on eBay and Amazon, among others.

Feather Loss Around The Neck by: Darren at CanaryAdvisor.com
Sorry to hear about your birds issues.
Bald spots are not normal even during the annual molt. There are several things that could cause bald spots in canaries.
Some things to be aware of are...
--Stress
--Another bird is plucking his feathers.
--Mites
--Vitamin D Deficiency
--and several others
And YES, constant egg laying can definitely have an impact creating a Vitamin deficiency of Vitamin D and Calcium.
Also, make sure your lighting is correct. Adjusting daylight hours often fixes the egg laying problem.
It can be difficult to know exactly what’s causing the bald spots but some of these issues are discussed at https://www.canaryadvisor.com and an entire chapter is devoted to bald spots and how to treat for it in the new ebook, "The Canary Lovers Guide To Preventing Your Canary's Overnight Death--How To Prevent Illness and Successfully Treat Your Canary When He's Sick".

I hope that helps :>)

Canary losing feathers by: Dottie
My female canary has lost all her feathers around her neck. My vet said to give her vitamin D and put the bird in sun, neither one has worked so now I will trying feeding her a hard boiled egg with crushed egg shells, also put up a full spectrum light. She constantly lays eggs, maybe that is an issue? After I do this & it works I will update my information. Other than that she is very healthy, always active & chirping & eating.

Feather Loss Around Neck by: Anonymous
My female canary (around 1-2 yrs old) has lost all the feathers around her neck. What can it be? She does seem very stressed, calling for her mate in another cage. She is constantly laying eggs, one every couple days. And the nest building doesn't stop.
