Comments for Your tips for scaley feet make my canary cripple
When I got Nick he had very scaley feet. He generally removed the scales himself (seemed an obsession) but I was still concerned. In addition to his regular diet, I started supplementing his diet with fruit (apple, grapes, bananna) and fresh vegy's (broccoli, lettuce, spinach) and made sure he got plenty of sunlight.
After a couple months of adding fruit/vegy's to his diet he has NO scaley feet. Of course I'm not 100% sure this is an actual remedy, but I'm not of the mind to experiment/confirm by stopping the fruit/vegy's to see if the scaley feet return. For the past year, after adding fruit/vegy's to his diet, I have carefully monitored if he is removing scales as he once did, but since there are NO scales in the first place it appears he isn't because there are none are present for him to remove. It seems there is a correlation - fruit/vegy's, 2 months, no scaley feet. Hmmmmmmm....
Just a suggestion that might work for others. Interesting to see if others have this experience...

Crippled Bird by: Darren
Sorry to hear this although I've used this method many times and so have hundreds of breeders worldwide without crippling a bird.
There must be something else going on...your bird is elderly? Or perhaps some other type of illness or condition?
